The secret behind our great tasting bread!

The secret to our very tasty bread is an 80 year-old Edwardian gas-fired trap oven. Its brick-lining provides an all-round, strong, deep heat that bakes our bread perfectly.



This oven replaced an earlier coke-fired one in the early 1930’s. Apart from routine maintenance, the oven has been continuously baking bread, six days a week, for over 80 years. We believe this is one of the oldest trap ovens in the UK still in daily use.



The bakery moved into its current premises in 1911 and was run by the Senior family for three generations. They retired in the early 1990's and ownership passed to Paul and Julia in 1997.
