The secret to our very tasty bread is an 80 year old Edwardian gas fired trap oven, its brick lining providing all round strong deep heat to bake our bread perfectly.

This 'modern' gas fired trap replaced an earlier coke fired oven in the early 1930’s. Apart from routine maintenance the oven has been continuously hot baking bread 6 days a weeks for over 80 years, we believe this is one of the oldest trap ovens in the UK still in daily use.

The bakery moved into its current premises in 1911 and so celebrates 100 years of continuous baking in the town this year.
Owned by the Senior family through three generations until the early 1990's and in our ownership since 1997.
